Returning home from a magical trip to Italy, I boarded Asiana Airlines flight OZ562 from Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO) to Incheon International Airport (ICN). Asiana offers this direct service on the advanced Airbus A350-900, and I flew in economy class during the winter season. While long-haul flights can often feel tiring, this journey was surprisingly comfortable thanks to the modern aircraft, attentive crew, and satisfying in-flight meals. In this post, I’ll share my full experience and useful tips for those considering the same route.

The check-in process at Rome was smoother than I expected. Asiana Airlines had clearly marked counters at Terminal 3, and the line moved quickly even during the busy winter travel period. Staff members were courteous and efficient, guiding passengers patiently through check-in procedures. Since Asiana’s economy class baggage allowance includes one checked bag up to 23 kg and one carry-on bag up to 10 kg, I didn’t have to worry about repacking my luggage at the counter. After checking my suitcase—full of souvenirs and winter clothing—I proceeded through security and passport control with ease.

As soon as I boarded the aircraft, I could tell that the Airbus A350-900 was different from older planes I’ve flown. The cabin interior was sleek and spacious, with calming ambient lighting and noticeably higher ceilings. I was especially impressed by how quiet the engines were during taxi and takeoff—it made the environment feel more peaceful, which really helped set the tone for the overnight journey. The air quality and humidity levels were also noticeably better, leaving my skin less dry and my body less fatigued than usual after a long-haul flight.

In the economy cabin, the seat comfort exceeded my expectations. The pitch was enough for my height (179 cm) to stretch out without feeling cramped, and the seat came with a blanket, pillow, footrest, and adjustable headrest. I appreciated the thoughtful design details, like a small coat hook and USB port for charging my phone. The touchscreen monitor in front of me offered a broad range of entertainment options, including the latest Korean blockbusters, international movies, documentaries, and music playlists. I watched a Korean romantic comedy and an Italian film, both of which helped pass the time more enjoyably.

As for the in-flight meals, Asiana served two full dishes during the flight, and both were well-prepared and flavorful. The first meal was a classic Korean bibimbap, complete with rice, vegetables, beef, gochujang (spicy red pepper paste), and sesame oil. I loved being able to mix it myself and season it to taste—it felt like a little taste of home. Before landing, the second meal was served: a warm chicken rice bowl, which was hearty and comforting, especially after a long night in the air. Between meals, the cabin crew came around frequently with drinks, snacks, and water, which helped keep passengers refreshed and hydrated.

The flight attendants on OZ562 were one of the highlights of the journey. From the moment I boarded, they greeted passengers with genuine smiles and kind energy. They moved gracefully through the aisles, responding promptly to service calls, offering help with luggage, and even checking in on passengers who appeared tired or uncomfortable. Their warmth made a big difference, especially during the quieter hours of the flight when many people were trying to sleep or relax.
What also stood out to me was how clean and well-maintained the cabin remained throughout the entire 11.5-hour flight. The restrooms were spotless even after several hours in the air, and the crew consistently tidied the galley area. Despite being in economy class, I felt that the level of care and attention to detail was closer to what I’ve experienced in premium cabins with other airlines.
